Our
" NAKSHATRA" TILES are creation of the Ancient
Indian Art of PIETRA DURA INLAY . The art of marble inlay
or "Parchin kari" was introduced in India in the
17th century by the Mughals and made famous by the Mughal
Emperor Shah Jahan, who envisaged the decoration of the
Taj Mahal (today one of the seven wonders of the world)
by this exquisite work. In this technique , thin sections
of precisely carved hard and semi-hard gemstones are laid
in sockets specially prepared in the surface of marble,
Here, the pietra dura inlay is wrought into the form of
arabesque floral tendrils which meander over the surface
of the white marble in a lyrical and graceful pattern that
transcends its inherently restrictive symmetry.
